Job Title
Entry-Level Hardware Engineer: FPGA, Verilog & VLSI
Role Summary
Join an engineering team in Austin developing hardware and firmware for advanced systems in quantum and AI domains. The role focuses on implementing, testing, and supporting FPGA, digital logic, and VLSI-related designs.
This is an entry-level developer position that emphasizes hands-on hardware design, verification, lab bring-up, and cross-functional collaboration.
Experience Level
Entry-level — suitable for recent graduates or engineers with limited professional experience (typically 0–2 years).
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include design, verification, and support of hardware and firmware for prototype and production systems.
- Implement and verify FPGA/ASIC digital logic using Verilog and related toolflows.
- Participate in VLSI block design, integration, and architecture discussions.
- Develop and run hardware validation and test plans in the lab.
- Integrate firmware with hardware and debug system-level issues.
- Prepare technical documentation, test reports, and design reviews.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (firmware, software, test engineering) to deliver features and resolve defects.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and attributes for the role.
- Hands-on experience or coursework with FPGA development and Verilog.
- Understanding of digital logic and basic VLSI concepts (synthesis, timing, floorplanning).
- Experience with hardware validation, debugging, and lab tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers) or willingness to learn.
- Basic firmware/embedded systems familiarity and ability to work with low-level interfaces.
- Clear written and verbal communication; ability to work effectively on teams.
- Motivation to learn and adapt in a rapidly evolving technical area.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with simulation and verification tools (ModelSim, VCS) or scripting in Python.
- Prior exposure to AI or quantum hardware projects.
