Job Title

Entry Level Engineering Technician

Role Summary

Perform hands-on technical support for product development lab engineering activities, including assembly, test, modification, characterization, functional validation, and electrical analysis of prototype electro-mechanical systems, experimental circuitry, test equipment, and/or IC devices.

The role operates within a product development lab team to execute tests, isolate faults, collect experimental data, and maintain lab processes and documentation to support engineering and manufacturing readiness.

Experience Level

Entry-level. Suitable for candidates at the start of their technical careers; experience expectations clarified under Education Requirements.

Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities include hands-on laboratory and test activities to support product development.

  • Assemble, fabricate, modify, and characterize prototype electro-mechanical systems and experimental circuitry.
  • Set up and operate bench and automated test and diagnostic equipment; perform operational testing, checkout, and fault isolation.
  • Conduct engineering and experimental tests to collect design and characterization data.
  • Support creation and maintenance of lab documentation and processes in accordance with quality requirements (e.g., IATF 16949).
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems and assist engineers with test procedures and validations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate test results clearly in verbal and written form.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the minimum credential/experience options listed under Education Requirements and demonstrate practical technical skills.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting skills for electrical and mechanical systems; attention to detail.
  • Experience with soldering and using bench and automated test equipment.
  • Proficient with common office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and able to produce clear written reports.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize work, manage time effectively, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in teams across functions.
  • Ability to learn and work with electro-mechanical systems and mechatronics.

Education Requirements

Minimum: High school diploma or GED. Candidates must meet one of the following: a technical certificate or associate degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology, Electromechanical Technology, Instrumentation Technology, Automated Industrial Technology, Robotics and Controls Technology, Nanoengineering and Nanotechnology, Electron Microscopy, or a related electronics field; OR 3 years of military electronics or mechanical training; OR 3 years of hands-on electrical/mechanical equipment technician experience (school, military, or job related). Equivalent practical experience is accepted per the listed options.
