Engineering Manager, FPGA Applications Engineering
Role Summary
Lead a Penang-based applications engineering team responsible for HPS, device configuration, and security features of FPGA products. Ensure customers can design, deploy, and secure systems using Altera devices while influencing product direction.
Work closely with the global Applications Engineering organization and with architecture and development teams to drive product readiness, technical collateral, and customer adoption.
Experience Level
Senior - requires 8+ years in applications engineering, embedded systems, FPGA development, software engineering, system architecture, or related fields, and 3+ years managing global teams or technical organizations.
Responsibilities
Manage team execution, technical delivery, and customer enablement for embedded FPGA features.
- Lead, coach, and develop applications engineers; define objectives, priorities, and execution plans.
- Oversee creation of application notes, user guides, tutorials, design examples, demos, and training materials.
- Drive product readiness and validate hardware/software releases to meet customer requirements and quality expectations.
- Serve as escalation point for complex customer issues involving HPS, configuration, boot flows, and system security; lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Partner with architecture and development teams to influence product requirements, usability, and customer experience.
- Ensure delivery of high-quality reference designs, software examples, and support materials for customer enablement.
Requirements
Core qualifications and skills required for this role.
Must-have:
- 8+ years experience in applications engineering, embedded systems, FPGA development, software engineering, system architecture, or related technical fields.
- 3+ years experience leading global teams, projects, or technical organizations.
- Proven ability to lead technical teams, mentor engineers, and deliver customer-facing collateral and reference designs.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with ARM-based embedded systems and Linux.
- Experience with FPGA design flows, configuration architectures, and programming methods.
- Familiarity with boot software (U-Boot, ATF) and device security (authentication, encryption, key management, secure boot).
- Knowledge of Post-Quantum Cryptography concepts, board bring-up, hardware debug, and system validation.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline is required.
