Engineering Intern — Hardware, Software & Systems

Role Summary

Paid placement internship at Analog Devices in Valencia working with engineering teams on hardware, software, and systems projects. Interns execute real project work that contributes to product development, measurements, and verification under mentorship.

Placements typically run for multiple months; longer terms (preferred >6 months) and co-op arrangements are supported to maximize learning and assessment for potential full-time roles.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for students; targeted at those in the final year of undergraduate or master's degree programs. No prior professional experience required.

Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Develop firmware and software for prototypes and test systems.
  • Qualify and validate code and system behavior.
  • Perform basic analog and digital design and verification tasks.
  • Design and build demo and instrumentation boards.
  • Conduct metrology and laboratory measurements and operate lab equipment.
  • Document results, procedures, and test reports clearly.
  • Run benchmarking and data analysis to evaluate designs.

Requirements

Key expectations and competencies:

Must-have:

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking.
  • Ability to debug systematically, analyse logs, and isolate root causes.
  • Clear and concise documentation skills.
  • Familiarity with AI tools for development or analysis.

Nice-to-have:

  • Practical experience in embedded software development.
  • Understanding of digital design basics (FSMs, timing, pipelining).
  • Knowledge of analog design fundamentals.
  • Experience with lab equipment and hardware/software integration troubleshooting.
  • Ability to write scripts for automation and data processing (Python preferred).
  • Exposure to simulation or testing frameworks.

Other considerations: candidates who are not US citizens or US permanent residents may be subject to export licensing review for roles requiring access to certain technical data.

Education Requirements

Enrolment in the final year of a Bachelor's (BSc) or Master's degree is required. Relevant fields include Electronics, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Physics, Mathematics or similar technical disciplines. Co-op schedule alignment and multi-month placements are preferred.
