NXP SemiconductorsJob Title
Engineering Intern: 77 GHz Automotive Radar Receiver Architecture (N-path charge-pump mixers)
Role Summary
6-month internship within NXP Automotive's 77 GHz radar transceiver team in Toulouse. The intern will evaluate the integration of N-path charge-pump passive mixers into automotive radar receiver architectures to assess potential gains in noise, linearity, and overall receiver performance.
The role involves simulation, design, layout and post-layout verification in collaboration with the IMS laboratory and the NXP RF/mmWave IC design team.
Experience Level
Entry-level (Internship). Intended for a final-year engineering student; 0–1 years of professional experience expected.
Responsibilities
The intern will work under the radar IC design team to study and demonstrate charge-pump N-path mixer integration in a 77 GHz receiver.
- Study and understand charge-pump N-path mixer operation and trade-offs.
- Determine mixer sizing and optimization to meet automotive radar constraints.
- Design or reuse receiver building blocks (matching networks, LNA, baseband amplifiers).
- Build and simulate a radar receiver with a charge-pump mixer using Cadence tools.
- Create the circuit layout and perform post-layout simulations and verification.
- Collaborate with the IMS laboratory and the NXP RF design team; document results.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and attributes required to perform the internship tasks.
- Familiarity with RF/mmWave CAD tools, notably Cadence Virtuoso and ADS Momentum.
- Strong understanding of RF fundamentals (mixers, LNAs, matching networks).
- Interest in millimeter-wave circuit design and the electronic design process.
- Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively in English (written and oral).
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with Cadence layout and post-layout simulation flows.
- Prior exposure to automotive radar receiver design or millimeter-wave projects.
Education Requirements
Final-year engineering student (engineering school / Master-level) in a relevant electrical engineering, electronics, or RF/mmWave program. The internship is aimed at students completing an engineering degree; enrollment as a student is required.
