Engineer Staff, HW Development

Role Summary

Develop, integrate, debug, and perform system-level validation of high-speed optical modules. The role focuses on module integration testing and performance optimization across optical and electrical components (lasers, DSPs, PICs, TIAs, drivers, and control circuits) and collaborates with optical, hardware, DSP, firmware, system, supplier, manufacturing, and quality teams.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typical expectation from the posting: Master’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience, or Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Primary technical and test-owner responsibilities.

• Develop and execute R&D test plans for high-speed optical modules across EVT, EDVT, DVT, ODVT, FVT, and customer qualification phases.
• Perform module integration debugging and performance optimization; correlate optical and electrical measurements with DSP status, register settings, telemetry, and system results.
• Define, review, and maintain test plans, specifications, test cases, validation reports, and debug documentation.
• Perform system-level validation with optical modules, switches, traffic testers, reference modules, optical fibers, and test equipment.
• Lead DOE, performance optimization, and root-cause analysis in cross-functional teams.
• Support selection, procurement, installation, calibration, and validation of test equipment, fixtures, and R&D test stations.
• Support customer sample testing, ODVT data preparation, customer issue analysis, and technical report generation.
• Serve as test owner or test lead for assigned programs: track progress, manage open issues, and drive milestones to completion.

Requirements

• Strong understanding of optical module architecture and key components: lasers, PICs, TOSA/ROSA, DSPs, drivers, TIAs, SerDes, MPDs, and module management interfaces.
• Proven experience with optical module integration, performance debugging, parameter tuning, and system-level optimization.
• Ability to read and interpret test specifications, register definitions, technical documentation, and product requirements.
• Experience in test planning, test data analysis, failure reporting, and producing technical documentation and validation reports.
• Hands-on familiarity with module test phases (EVT/EDVT/DVT/ODVT/FVT) and with troubleshooting across optical and electrical subsystems.
• Strong analytical problem-solving, coordination, and communication skills; able to lead cross-functional investigations and communicate technical findings clearly.
• Good English proficiency (equivalent to CET-6 or above) for reading, speaking, and writing.
• Nice-to-have: experience with Python, JMP, Excel or other data analysis and test automation tools.
• Nice-to-have: familiarity with IEEE 802.3 Ethernet standards and CMIS 5.2/5.3 management specifications.

Education Requirements

Master’s degree in optical communications, optical module development, high-speed electronics, or related field with 3+ years of relevant experience; or Bachelor’s degree in those fields with 5+ years of relevant experience.
