Engineer Intern - AI-assisted NFC Chip Characterization
Role Summary
Six-month internship on the Secure Transaction & Identification product line in Caen. The role focuses on developing data-analysis tools to automate characterization of NFC and related contactless communication integrated circuits tested at industrial scale.
You will work with a multidisciplinary team of product engineers and data specialists to reduce time-to-resolution for test anomalies and ensure devices meet customer specifications.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship for final-year Master's / engineering students (no prior professional experience required). Suitable for candidates with project experience in data processing and statistical analysis.
Responsibilities
Deliver a production-capable data pipeline and tools to support automated characterization and specification validation.
- Design and implement a data preprocessing pipeline for industrial test data using Python (Polars expected).
- Implement statistical analysis and validation workflows to compare results against customer specifications.
- Deploy semantic-encoding (embeddings) and integrate Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) with an LLM to manage specifications and contextual queries.
- Work with product engineers across Europe and Asia to gather requirements and iterate on solutions.
- Document methods, results, and usage instructions in English.
- Analyze test failures and support root-cause investigation using produced metrics and visualizations.
Requirements

- Must-have: hands-on experience with Python 3 for data processing (project experience), knowledge of exploratory data analysis and implementation of statistical algorithms, strong technical English (written and spoken), ability to collaborate in an international multidisciplinary team, and availability for a 6-month onsite internship in Caen.
- Nice-to-have: familiarity with Polars, experience with semantic embeddings, LLMs and RAG, background in microelectronics or experience analyzing multimodal statistical distributions.
Education Requirements
Master's degree (Bac +5) or final-year engineering school student in Electronics, Statistics/Mathematics, or Computer Science. The posting requests candidates in their final year of an engineering or Master-level program.
