Engineer II - Software Development

Role Summary

Develop firmware and unit tests for Microchip debuggers and programmers that support new and existing microcontroller devices. Collaborate with hardware, design, and application teams and coordinate with global teams to implement device support and tooling features.

Experience Level

Mid-level - typically 2 to 6 years of firmware development experience.

Responsibilities

Primary technical and team responsibilities for the role:

  • Design and implement firmware for new hardware tools (debuggers/programmers).
  • Add new part/device support and features to existing tools.
  • Develop and execute unit tests for new device support.
  • Update and maintain automated test scripts for new devices.
  • Work with design, application, and global teams to interpret device programming specifications and product requirements.
  • Provide technical support to internal and external customers.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.

  • 2 to 6 years of firmware development experience (embedded systems).
  • Proficient in the C programming language and assembly.
  • Knowledge of microcontroller architectures (PIC, dsPIC, ARM, AVR).
  • Ability to read and understand device programming specifications and technical schematics.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Nice to have: experience with scripting languages and hardware design knowledge.

Education Requirements

BE or equivalent degree in Electronics or allied branches.
