Job Title

Engineer II - FPGA Design

Role Summary

Implement and integrate FPGA-based digital systems and IP for defense-oriented programs within the Electrical & Electronic Solutions organization at BAE Systems Space & Mission Systems. Work spans R&D, proof-of-concept, and production efforts supporting tactical RF and high-reliability electronic systems.

Position requires close cross-functional collaboration and may require eligibility for security clearance submission depending on program needs.

Experience Level

Mid-level (Engineer II). Typical candidate has 2+ years of related engineering experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Design and implement FPGA architectures and digital IP for tactical RF and high-reliability systems.
  • Integrate SoC architectures (including soft-core processors), digital filters, image processing algorithms, and communication interfaces/protocols.
  • Create test fixtures and test plans for chip- and board-level verification; develop reusable test circuits and verification artifacts.
  • Work on R&D, proof-of-concept, and production programs in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Translate system/subsystem/board requirements into design and verification tasks; maintain documentation and schedules.
  • Maintain predictable on-site attendance and establish effective working relationships across teams.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • 2+ years of relevant FPGA or digital design experience.
  • Digital system partitioning and advanced FPGA implementation experience.
  • Solid electronic circuit design and systems engineering background.
  • Proficiency in VHDL, Verilog, and SystemVerilog.
  • Experience with FPGA toolchains such as AMD Vivado/Vitis and Siemens ModelSim/QuestaSim.
  • Ability to derive design work from requirements and perform flow-down across system/subsystem/board levels.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with OVM/UVM verification methodologies.
  • Familiarity with high-speed interfaces (PCI, Ethernet, RDMA) and SI analysis tools (e.g., HyperLynx).
  • Signal processing / DSP algorithm experience.
  • Experience with cybersecurity topics and space or military programs.

Education Requirements

BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required, plus 2 or more years of related experience. A Master’s degree or Ph.D. may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. Degree must be from an institution accredited by a recognized accrediting agency. (Equivalent practical experience is accepted per company policy.)
