Job Title

Engineer II, Firmware Test Engineer

Role Summary

Develop and execute validation strategies and test automation to ensure SSD firmware quality and reliability. Work with firmware engineers, product teams, and validation engineers to diagnose failures, improve test infrastructure, and deliver robust storage solutions at scale.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical experience guidance: Bachelor's degree plus 3–5 years, or Master's degree plus 1–3 years (see Education Requirements).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on firmware validation, failure analysis, and automation improvements.

  • Design and implement firmware verification strategies for NVMe features (e.g., SMART, Trim, Get Log Page, OCP).
  • Investigate regression and field failures; perform root-cause analysis and document findings.
  • Develop and enhance test infrastructure, automation frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and reporting tools.
  • Integrate AI-assisted tools to optimize test selection, failure triage, anomaly detection, and productivity.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align validation efforts with product requirements.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution. Preferred items follow.

  • Strong Python programming skills and experience building test automation (experience with NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn).
  • Hands-on experience with test methodologies, automation concepts, and executing validation strategies.
  • Familiarity applying machine learning concepts or existing models/libraries to testing challenges.
  • Experience using AI-enabled development tools and strong communication skills in multi-functional teams.

Preferred / Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with ML frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Background in embedded systems, firmware development, and storage technologies (NVMe, PCIe, NAND, SSD architectures).
  • Experience with C or Rust, Linux and Windows environments, and Git-based workflows.
  • Prior experience implementing automation solutions in validation or test environments.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree with 3–5 years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with 1–3 years of relevant experience, in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
