Engineer II, Firmware & Product Test Engineering
Role Summary
Join the Firmware & Product Test (FPT) team to validate enterprise SSD firmware by developing verification plans, automating test workflows, analyzing failures, and applying data-driven methods to improve product quality. The role involves close collaboration with firmware engineers, test developers, and AI/ML practitioners.
Experience Level
Mid-level (Engineer II). Typical background: approximately 3 years of relevant engineering or test experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include verification planning, test development, failure analysis, and automation.
- Develop and implement firmware verification plans for customer requirements and NVMe features (e.g., SMART, Trim, Get Log Page, OCP).
- Design and implement test methodologies to validate firmware functionality and reliability.
- Analyze regression failures, perform root-cause analysis, and communicate findings, risks, and mitigation plans.
- Develop and enhance Python-based test automation, reporting, and data-collection tools within established validation frameworks.
- Apply AI/ML techniques and AI-powered tools to improve test efficiency, failure detection, and workflow automation.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Proficiency in Python and familiarity with libraries such as NumPy, pandas, and scikit-learn.
- Experience with test automation, testing methodologies, validation tools, and debugging complex technical issues.
- Working knowledge of machine learning fundamentals, including common algorithms, training concepts, and evaluation metrics.
- Experience using AI-powered tools or AI-enabled workflows to improve engineering productivity and test quality.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with ML frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
- Academic, research, or project experience in machine learning, data science, or AI.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, Microsoft Copilot).
- Understanding of embedded systems, firmware validation, or hardware testing concepts.
- Familiarity with Git, Agile methodologies, and modern software development practices.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree plus approximately 3 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree, in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
