Engineer II - Failure Analysis
Role Summary
Perform die-level electrical failure analysis (FA) on rejects from reliability monitors, final test and customer returns. Provide technical reports, corrective actions, and support to test, process and reliability engineering to improve yield and product reliability.
Work within cross-functional teams to qualify new devices, evaluate process changes, maintain FA lab operations, and train laboratory staff.
Experience Level
Senior — at least 7 years of failure analysis experience (role expects experienced individual capable of independent FA and cross-functional influence).
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include root-cause failure analysis, reporting, and lab support:
- Perform die-level electrical failure analysis on rejects from reliability monitors, final test and customer returns.
- Generate FA reports, summarize results, and distribute findings to concerned departments and subcontractors.
- Issue CAPA and recommend corrective actions to improve process and product quality and reliability.
- Support yield and reliability investigations and evaluate the impact of process changes and raw materials.
- Participate in qualification of new devices and processes with reliability and product engineering.
- Maintain and improve FA laboratory operations, including minor repairs, preventive maintenance, and forecasting consumables/equipment purchases.
- Develop or select new FA techniques and testing equipment; document methods and ensure compliance to quality/management system requirements.
- Train and supervise laboratory analysts, technicians and engineers in FA equipment and techniques.
- Work on plant-wide projects as part of cross-functional teams and ensure adherence to documented procedures.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Minimum seven years of hands-on failure analysis experience (die-level FA preferred).
- Proven ability to perform root-cause analysis and drive corrective actions across operations.
- Good command of English (verbal and written) for reporting and cross-functional communication.
- Proficient with personal computers and spreadsheet software.
- Able to train and mentor technicians and engineers on FA techniques and lab procedures.
- Familiarity with quality and management system requirements (e.g., IATF16949/TS16949, ISO standards) preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interface with QA, process, test and product engineering groups.
- Travel: 0–25% as required.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree (BS or BE) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Physics, or a related technical field.
