Engineer II - Design
MicrochipJob Title
Engineer II - Design
Role Summary
Work on embedded controller and SoC design for processor-based products (tablets, notebooks, embedded systems) as part of an ASIC/embedded controller design team. The role covers RTL design through pre-silicon verification and FPGA emulation.
Position is based in Hauppauge, NY; you will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to implement and verify ASIC features and deliverables.
Experience Level
Mid-level - typically 3β5 years of experience in RTL design for ASIC implementation.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include delivering RTL and participating in the ASIC implementation flow.
- Develop and deliver RTL for ASIC implementation (state machines, datapath logic, complex modules).
- Perform synthesis, gate-level implementation, and participate in timing closure activities.
- Support cross-domain clocking analysis and participate in design reviews.
- Participate in pre-silicon FPGA emulation and generation of test vectors for verification.
- Collaborate with verification, firmware, and system teams to integrate and validate designs.
- Document designs and provide technical status updates to the team.
Requirements
Key must-have and useful qualifications for performing the job.
- Must-have: 3β5 years of RTL design experience for ASIC implementation.
- Must-have: Experience with RTL design tools and flows such as design entry, synthesis, formal verification, and RTL/gate-level implementation.
- Must-have: Ability to design complex state machines and datapath logic.
- Must-have: Self-starter, team player, and effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Must-have: Legal right to work in the United States.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with pre-silicon FPGA emulation and test vector generation.
- Travel: 0%β25%.
- Physical: Primarily sitting (approx. 90%); occasional standing/walking (approx. 10%).
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering. Relevant coursework or practical experience in microelectronic devices and circuits, semiconductor devices, analog and digital integrated circuits, digital signal processing, low-power VLSI techniques. Familiarity gained through coursework or practice with Verilog/SystemVerilog and VHDL, static timing analysis and Verilog simulation tools, and programming languages such as C, Python, Perl, and TCL.
