Engineer I - Yield Enhancement

Role Summary

Entry-level yield enhancement engineer supporting semiconductor wafer fabrication and test to improve product yield and drive continuous improvement. The role focuses on data analysis, failure investigation, process collaboration, and developing basic machine-learning tools for large-scale manufacturing data.

Experience Level

Entry-level (0–2 years relevant experience). Internships and academic projects are considered.

Responsibilities

Perform data-driven yield improvement and failure analysis across manufacturing and test; collaborate with process teams to implement corrective actions and support NPI and process optimization.

  • Monitor and analyze wafer/process/test data to identify yield opportunities.
  • Perform root-cause failure analysis on wafers and devices.
  • Collaborate with process and cross-functional teams to implement corrective actions and track results.
  • Assist with DOE data analysis and interpretation.
  • Support new product introduction and process optimization projects.
  • Prepare technical reports and present findings to engineering and management teams.
  • Develop and maintain scripts/tools to automate data analysis and reporting.
  • Clean and engineer features from manufacturing data and develop basic machine-learning models for yield analysis.

Requirements

Must-have:

  • Understanding of wafer fabrication processes and semiconductor device physics.
  • Familiarity with failure analysis techniques (electron microscopy, elemental spectroscopy, electrical wafer/assembly testing).
  • Strong statistical analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with data analysis tools such as Power BI, JMP, or R.
  • Ability to write or maintain scripts/software for data processing and reporting.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred / Nice-to-have:

  • Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) and yield management systems.
  • Proficiency in a programming language for data analysis (Python, VBA, SQL, or similar).
  • Knowledge of cleanroom protocols and safety procedures.
  • Experience building machine-learning models for manufacturing data.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related technical field.
