Engineer I - Applications

Role Summary

Work on embedded firmware for Secure Computing products with emphasis on Embedded Controller (EC) applications for x86 and Arm-based PC platforms. Collaborate with engineering, validation, marketing, and customer teams to develop, test, integrate, and support firmware and system-level solutions.

This position includes customer-facing activities such as technical demonstrations, troubleshooting through Salesforce, producing application notes and technical collateral, and supporting product adoption across geographically distributed teams.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Engineer I). Typical hire will have early-career experience; generally 0–3 years of relevant firmware or embedded systems experience is expected.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include development, validation, integration, and customer support for embedded firmware and EC solutions.

  • Develop, enhance, test, and support embedded firmware for Secure Computing products, focusing on EC applications for x86 and Arm PC platforms.
  • Work with engineering, validation, marketing, and customers to support product deployment and customer onboarding.
  • Perform hardware and system-level integration, debugging, and troubleshooting.
  • Deliver technical demonstrations and provide technical enablement for customers and internal teams.
  • Resolve customer issues via Salesforce and collaborate on escalation and root-cause analysis.
  • Create application notes, technical collateral, and clear engineering documentation.
  • Coordinate with geographically distributed teams to support product adoption lifecycle.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and abilities required to perform the role.

  • Experience in firmware development, testing, deployment, verification, and validation for embedded systems, microprocessors, or microcontrollers.
  • Strong programming skills in Embedded C and experience with Python scripting.
  • Familiarity with ARM architecture, Linux environments, and command-line build tools.
  • Experience using embedded debugging tools (oscilloscopes, debuggers, protocol analyzers).
  • Knowledge of common embedded communication protocols such as I2C and SPI.
  • Cross-platform development and debugging experience.
  • Good understanding of both software and hardware electronic concepts; strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective written and verbal English communication, technical writing, and documentation skills.
  • Self-motivated individual contributor who works well in collaborative, distributed teams.

Preferred / nice-to-have skills:

  • Experience with Chromium EC firmware, Zephyr RTOS, or FreeRTOS.
  • Basic cryptography and security algorithm knowledge.
  • Familiarity with Azure and IoT platforms.
  • Experience with MPLAB, Keil IDE, or similar embedded toolchains.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
