Job Title
Engineer, HIG HBM Layout
Role Summary
Layout design engineer on Micron's High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) team in Hyderabad, India. The role focuses on physical layout for memory and mixed-signal/custom blocks used in AI and high-performance computing applications.
Works across global engineering teams to deliver block-level layouts, perform physical verification, and support full-chip integration and tape-out schedules.
Experience Level
Mid-level β typically 3 to 7 years of relevant experience in memory or custom IC layout design.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include producing high-quality layouts, performing verification, and coordinating with cross-functional teams to meet project milestones.
- Design and develop critical analog, mixed-signal, and custom-digital block layouts and support full-chip integration.
- Perform layout verification tasks including LVS, DRC, antenna checks, and documentation of results.
- Deliver block-level layouts on schedule with required quality and compliance to technology rules.
- Estimate area and schedule, plan and execute tasks across multiple concurrent projects.
- Mentor and review work of junior team members on sub-block layouts.
- Communicate effectively with global engineering teams to ensure successful layout execution and tape-out readiness.
Requirements
Technical skills and experience required to perform the role.
Must-have:
- 3β7 years' experience in memory or custom layout design in advanced CMOS technologies (Planar, FinFET nodes).
- Proven experience with Cadence VLE/VXL and Mentor Graphics Calibre DRC/LVS.
- Hands-on experience creating layouts for critical analog/mixed-signal blocks (examples: temperature sensor, PLL, ADC, DAC, LDO, bandgap, reference generators, charge pump, current mirrors, comparators, differential amplifiers).
- Strong understanding of analog layout fundamentals (matching, electromigration, latch-up, coupling, crosstalk, IR-drop, device parasitics) and how layout affects speed, capacitance, power, and area.
- Ability to interpret design constraints, implement high-quality layouts, and perform physical verification of custom layouts.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience supporting multiple tape-outs.
Education Requirements
BE or MTech in Electronics / VLSI Engineering.
