Job Title
Engineer, HIG HBM Layout
Role Summary
Layout Design engineer on Micron's High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) team based in Hyderabad. The role focuses on creating and verifying IC layouts for analog, mixed-signal, and custom digital blocks used in high-performance and AI applications.
The engineer will work across global teams on multiple projects, deliver block-level layouts on schedule, and support full-chip integration and verification activities.
Experience Level
Mid-level β 3 to 7 years of relevant experience in memory/custom IC layout design.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include delivering high-quality layouts, performing verification, and coordinating with cross-functional teams.
- Design and develop critical analog, mixed-signal, and custom digital block layouts; support full-chip integration.
- Perform layout verification including LVS, DRC, antenna checks, and quality documentation.
- Deliver block-level layouts on time while meeting quality requirements and design constraints.
- Estimate area/time, plan schedules, delegate tasks, and execute to meet project milestones across multiple projects.
- Guide and review junior engineers on sub-block layouts.
- Communicate effectively with global engineering teams to ensure successful layout projects.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; listed separately are items that are advantageous.
- 3β7 years experience in memory/custom layout design in advanced CMOS processes (Planar, FinFET).
- Proven expertise with Cadence VLE/VXL and Mentor Graphics Calibre for DRC/LVS.
- Hands-on experience creating layouts for critical analog blocks (temperature sensor, PLL, ADC, DAC, LDO, bandgap, reference generators, charge pump, current mirrors, comparators, differential amplifiers).
- Strong understanding of analog layout fundamentals: matching, electromigration, latch-up, coupling, crosstalk, IR-drop, and device parasitics.
- Understanding of how layout affects circuit speed, capacitance, power, and area; ability to implement high-quality layouts within design constraints.
- Familiarity with design hierarchy and memory design architectures; strong problem-solving skills in physical verification.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Nice-to-have: experience supporting multiple tape-outs.
Education Requirements
BE or MTech in Electronics/VLSI Engineering (or equivalent technical degree).
