Job Title

Engineer, FW & Product Test Engineering

Role Summary

Validate enterprise SSD firmware through test development, automation, execution, and failure analysis. The role is part of the Firmware & Product Test (FPT) team and focuses on ensuring firmware reliability, performance, and quality for NVMe-based storage products.

Work includes building automation and data-collection tools, applying machine learning and AI-enabled methods to testing, and collaborating with firmware engineers and data scientists to improve validation processes.

Experience Level

Mid-level (Engineer II). The role expects approximately 3 years of relevant experience or equivalent practical experience consistent with an Engineer II level.

Responsibilities

Key duties include developing test strategies, automating validation tasks, executing test plans, and investigating failures.

  • Develop and implement firmware verification plans for customer requirements and NVMe features (e.g., SMART, Trim, Get Log Page, OCP).
  • Design and implement test methodologies to validate firmware functionality and reliability.
  • Create, maintain, and extend Python-based test automation, reporting, and data-collection tools within validation frameworks.
  • Execute regression and reliability tests; analyze failures and perform root-cause analysis with documented mitigation plans.
  • Apply AI-powered tools and machine learning techniques to improve test efficiency, failure detection, and validation workflows.
  • Collaborate with firmware engineers, mentors, and data scientists to scale validation and improve product quality.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • Proficiency in Python and experience with libraries such as NumPy, pandas, and scikit-learn.
  • Experience with test automation, validation tools, testing methodologies, and debugging complex technical issues.
  • Working knowledge of machine learning fundamentals, including algorithms, training concepts, and evaluation metrics.
  • Experience using AI-enabled tools or AI-powered workflows to improve engineering productivity and test quality.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for failure analysis and root-cause investigation.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional work with firmware and data teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Academic, research, or project experience in machine learning, data science, or AI.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, Claude) and modern software development practices (Git, Agile).
  • Understanding of embedded systems, firmware validation, or hardware testing concepts.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree with approximately 3 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree, in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
