Engineer, Firmware & Product Test Engineering

Role Summary

As an Engineer II on the Firmware & Product Test (FPT) team, you will validate enterprise SSD firmware by developing test strategies, automating workflows, analyzing failures, and applying data-driven methods to improve product quality. You will work closely with firmware engineers, test developers, and AI/ML practitioners to improve validation efficiency and reliability.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Early-career. Targeted experience: approximately 3 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include designing and executing firmware validation, automating tests, and driving data-informed improvements.

  • Develop and implement firmware verification plans for customer requirements and NVMe features (SMART, Trim, Get Log Page, OCP).
  • Design and implement test methodologies to validate firmware functionality and reliability.
  • Analyze regression failures, perform root-cause analysis, and communicate findings, risks, and mitigation plans.
  • Develop and enhance Python-based test automation, reporting, and data-collection tools within established validation frameworks.
  • Leverage AI-powered tools, machine learning techniques, and data-driven methods to improve test efficiency, failure detection, and workflow automation.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience to perform the role; followed by desirable skills.

  • Must-have: Proficiency in Python and experience with libraries such as NumPy, pandas, and scikit-learn.
  • Experience with test automation, validation tools, testing methodologies, and debugging complex technical issues.
  • Working knowledge of machine learning fundamentals, including common algorithms, training concepts, and evaluation metrics.
  • Experience using AI-enabled tools or workflows to improve engineering productivity, test quality, or operational efficiency.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Academic, research, or project experience in machine learning, data science, or AI.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, or similar).
  • Understanding of embedded systems, firmware validation, or hardware testing concepts; familiarity with Git and Agile development practices.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree with approximately 3 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree, in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience is acceptable.
