Engineer, Field Applications (BBP)

Role Summary

Field applications engineer responsible for driving acceptance and product adoption of KLA tools at customer sites in Japan. Work closely with customers, service, technical support, sales and product teams to develop recipes, best-known methods, and tailored solutions for production use cases.

Role includes on-site technical support, project coordination, customer training, performance analysis and pre-sales assistance.

Experience Level

Entry-level to early career. Typical guidance: Master's degree with 0 years' related experience, or Bachelor's degree with ~2 years' related experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include supporting tool deployment and customer adoption, project coordination, and customer-facing communication.

• Create and maintain production recipes and Best Known Methods for customer processes.
• Provide on-site technical support: train operators and engineers and analyze tool performance.
• Work with Service and Technical Support to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
• Plan and manage project priorities, schedules and milestones; report progress to stakeholders.
• Develop value propositions and concise summaries for executive and business reviews.
• Maintain regular customer communication; present system benefits and differentiate versus competitors.
• Support pre-sales activities and coordinate with sales/marketing on customer penetration strategies.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, language and interpersonal capabilities for success in customer-facing field roles.

• Technical: knowledge of advanced optics, physics and materials science; solid understanding of semiconductor process technologies.
• Experience or aptitude in IC process environments and production support.
• Strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills; able to present technical value to customers and management.
• Project management: ability to plan, track and execute multiple concurrent projects.
• Problem-solving and creative thinking to develop solutions for new customer challenges.
• Language: native-level Japanese (JLPT N1 or equivalent) and business-level English.
• Personal qualities: proactive driver, effective across multiple cultures, able to perform under pressure.

Education Requirements

Minimum qualifications: Master’s degree with 0 years related work experience, or Bachelor’s degree with ~2 years related work experience. Preferred fields include Physics, Materials Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering or other related technical disciplines. (Equivalent practical experience not explicitly stated.)
