Role Summary
Work in Northrop Grumman's Advanced Digital Design organization in San Diego on digital designs for software-defined radios and associated test equipment. This hiring event supports placement into one of multiple embedded/digital engineering roles that match your background.
Experience Level
Dual-level requisition: can be filled as Digital Engineer or Principal Digital Engineer. Typical experience guidance provided by the employer:

Responsibilities
Key responsibilities for digital engineering roles supporting communications and signal-processing systems:
- Design, implement, verify, and test FPGA-based digital subsystems used in software-defined radios.
- Develop and maintain FPGA requirements and demonstrate traceability to technical references.
- Create design-assurance deliverables and assemble technical data packages.
- Perform board- and system-level debug using common test equipment; support integration and lab testing.
- Define and apply physical and timing constraints to achieve timing closure.
- Work independently and collaboratively to move concepts into working systems for defense platforms.
- Support programs that require U.S. government security clearances.
Requirements
Minimum and preferred technical qualifications (degrees are summarized separately under Education Requirements).
- Must-have: Hands-on experience in VHDL design, verification, simulation, and testing for FPGAs.
- Must-have: Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret clearance.
- Must-have: Experience with FPGA EDA tools such as Vivado, Quartus, and Questa Simulator.
- Must-have: Board- or system-level debug experience and familiarity with timing/physical constraints to achieve timing closure.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with AMD and/or Intel FPGAs, OSVVM, multilayer board design, high-speed interfaces, and RF communication systems.
- Nice-to-have: Proven ability to produce design-assurance documentation and technical data packages.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Computer Engineering (BSCE) referenced as the baseline.
