Job Title
Engineer (Memory Layout Designer)
Role Summary
Member of the Physical IP β Memory group working on full-custom memory layout, floor planning and metal planning to optimize performance, power and area (PPA) for advanced process nodes.
Work closely with layout and circuit teams to implement and verify high-performance arrays, bitcells and associated control logic for Arm systems.
Experience Level
Mid-level β typically 2+ years of relevant layout design experience.
Responsibilities
Deliver production-quality layouts and perform verification from planning through sign-off.
- Implement full-custom layouts of high-performance arrays and memory blocks from schematics through final verification and reviews.
- Perform floor planning, metal planning and efficient layout techniques to optimize PPA for advanced process technologies.
- Interpret and apply physical design rules for advanced manufacturing processes.
- Debug and resolve DRC/LVS/DFM issues; run physical verification using Calibre or equivalent tools.
- Perform reliability checks including electromigration and IR analysis.
- Collaborate with circuit design leads to identify layout trade-offs and ensure manufacturability.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and practical experience required for the role.
- Minimum ~2 years relevant layout design experience in full-custom memory or analog/mixed-signal layout.
- Proven ability to read, plan and organise work from complex hierarchical schematics.
- Experience with layout techniques to optimise power, speed and area for datapath, bitcell arrays, word-line drivers and control blocks.
- Experience diagnosing and fixing LVS and DRC issues using verification tools.
- Experience with Cadence Virtuoso layout environment.
- Strong attention to detail and organised approach to tasks.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree (or equivalent practical experience) is expected.
Requirements (Nice-to-have)
Additional skills that are advantageous but not required.
- Experience with design-for-manufacture in advanced nodes (7nm/5nm/3nm/2nm).
- Experience discussing design tradeoffs with circuit designers and making layout-driven recommendations.
- Programming or scripting experience: Tcl, Perl, shell, Skill, Scheme.
