Emulation Verification Engineer

Role Summary

Join AMD's Verification/Emulation Engineering team to design and run hardware emulation verification for CPU core IP. You will build and maintain emulation test infrastructure, create test benches and workloads, debug failures, and collaborate with firmware, RTL, and architecture teams to validate functionality and performance.

This role is based in Austin, TX and is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities focus on verifying core IP using emulation and supporting tools:

• Plan, create, execute, and debug core verification on emulators in coordination with firmware, RTL, DV, and system architects.
• Define and implement test plans including stimulus, checkers, and functional coverage.
• Develop test benches and test bench components in C++ and related languages.
• Write monitors and checkers for end-to-end emulation infrastructure.
• Run emulator workloads and hardware emulation builds to verify functional performance and new features.
• Debug regression failures, reproduce silicon observations in simulation, and work with designers to resolve design defects.
• Maintain and improve the emulation environment to reduce runtime and improve debug capability.
• Provide technical support and collaborate with architects, hardware, and firmware engineers.

Requirements

Core technical skills and practical experience required or strongly preferred:

• Must-have: Hands-on experience developing verification test benches and components in C++ (Linux preferred).
• Must-have: Proficient debugging of RTL/firmware failures using waveform viewers, logs, and simulation traces.
• Must-have: Experience with UVM testbenches and working in Linux and Windows verification environments.
• Must-have: Strong collaboration skills to work with RTL designers, firmware engineers, and architects.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with FPGA/emulation platforms (ZeBu, HAPS, Veloce) and hardware emulation build flows.
• Nice-to-have: Knowledge of UEFI, coreboot, Linux and Windows OS internals; x86 and/or ARM SoC architecture; x86 assembly coding.
• Nice-to-have: Scripting experience (Perl, Python, Makefile, shell) and automation in distributed compute environments.
• Nice-to-have: Exposure to leadership or mentorship responsibilities.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering as stated in the posting.
