Job Title

Emulation Performance Methodology & Debug Engineer

Role Summary

Work on Qualcomm's Emulation team within the SoC digital hardware organization to develop and support pre-silicon emulation and FPGA prototyping platforms and to debug SoC designs. Collaborate with architects, designers, verification and software engineers, and customers to enable pre-silicon bring-up and validate digital functionality.

Primary focus areas include emulation build generation, platform bring-up, timing closure, and low-level hardware/software debug across CPU, multimedia, modem, DDR and peripheral subsystems.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Preferred 2+ years of experience working in emulation and silicon environments.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include developing and supporting emulation platforms, enabling pre-silicon prototyping, and diagnosing hardware/software issues.

  • Develop and maintain emulation build generation and debug methodologies for FPGA-based emulation platforms.
  • Bring up and validate new FPGA emulation/prototyping hardware and associated software.
  • Debug low-level software and hardware issues; support waveform generation and content debug.
  • Perform validation and debug of digital circuits and SoC building blocks (interconnects, PMIC, NoC, peripherals).
  • Work with synthesis/place-and-route flows, constraints, clocking, and timing closure as applied to emulation designs.
  • Collaborate cross-site, engage vendors, and communicate status to engineering stakeholders.
  • Support pre-silicon enablement and bring-up for new SoC designs.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience, plus useful preferred skills.

Must-have:

  • Expertise in Verilog / SystemVerilog.
  • Experience programming in C.
  • Proficient scripting with Python and TCL.
  • FPGA expertise with Xilinx/Intel toolflows and timing-closure techniques.
  • Practical experience debugging low-level hardware and software; familiarity with JTAG and kernel debuggers.
  • Solid understanding of CPU/SoC architectures and common SoC subsystems.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with emulation platforms (FPGA prototyping, Veloce, Palladium) and emulation tools.
  • Experience with synthesis, place-and-route, constraints, clocking and timing closure in emulation flows.
  • Experience with pre-silicon prototyping, cross-site collaboration, and vendor engagement.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field.
