Emulation Engineer
BroadcomJob Title
Emulation Engineer
Role Summary
Verify ASIC designs pre-silicon using emulation platforms and build the verification infrastructure, tests, and models needed for chip-level validation. The role works with architecture, design, DV, and firmware/validation teams to achieve comprehensive verification coverage and reliable emulation environments.
Experience Level
Senior - 8+ years in pre-silicon verification/emulation of ASICs.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include developing tests, models, and automation to validate chip designs on emulation platforms and driving debugging/root-cause analysis across hardware and software.
- Analyze chip architecture and micro-architecture to define and execute pre-silicon test plans.
- Verify designs on emulation platforms and develop subsystem and chip-level tests.
- Develop synthesizable Verilog/SystemVerilog models for emulation environments.
- Implement tests and automation using Tcl/ITcl, Python, and C/C++.
- Perform block, subsystem, and system-level debugging and root-cause analysis for hardware and software issues.
- Develop and optimize automation scripts and emulation methodologies for efficiency, reusability, and coverage.
- Create reusable synthesizable blocks, libraries, and verification components.
- Build and maintain robust emulation environments supporting a global user base.
- Collaborate with Architecture, Design, DV, and FW/Validation teams to ensure verification completeness.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred technical skills and experience.
- 8+ years of experience in pre-silicon verification/emulation of ASICs.
- Strong expertise in Verilog/SystemVerilog and verification methodologies.
- Proficient in C/C++, Tcl (including ITcl), Python, and scripting for automation.
- Strong debugging skills; experience with DPI transactors, assertions, and coverage-driven verification.
- Ability to define verification scope and contribute to verification infrastructure.
- Proven ability to collaborate with architects, designers, and software engineers.
- Nice-to-have: hands-on experience with emulation platforms (Palladium, Zebu), speed bridges, and high-speed interfaces such as PCIe.
- Simulation-background verification engineers are welcome if they demonstrate strong verification fundamentals.
- Effective written and verbal communication in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field was specified. The posting pairs the degree with 8+ years of pre-silicon verification/emulation experience for this role. No certifications were listed.
