Role Summary

The Emulation Engineer position involves working with the Core Switch Group at Broadcom, specializing in the development and validation of networking ASICs. The engineer is responsible for ensuring designs meet benchmarks for portability, bandwidth, and robustness before they go to production.

Experience Level

The role requires over 8 years of experience in pre-silicon verification and/or emulation, specifically within high-performance networking designs.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting comprehensive studies of chip architecture to develop and execute pre-silicon test plans that validate switch features.
  • Verifying designs using emulation platforms.
  • Developing complex subsystems and chip-level tests using Tcl, ITcl, Python, and C/C++.
  • Building Verilog/SystemVerilog models for various emulation platforms.
  • Debugging issues effectively and performing root cause analysis on both hardware and software problems.
  • Collaborating with post-silicon teams to correlate validation results and address any discrepancies in architecture.
  • Creating automation scripts to improve testing efficiency and coverage.
  • Maintaining robust emulation environments for global user support.

Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Proven expertise in defining verification strategies and executing at various levels for networking ASICs.
  • Strong skills in Verilog/SystemVerilog, C/C++, and scripting languages for test automation.
  • Experience with hardware emulation platforms.
  • Excellent debugging skills and familiarity with high-speed protocols, particularly PCIe and Ethernet.
  • Strong communication abilities for collaboration across architecture, design, and software teams.

Education Requirements

A degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent experience in the industry is typically required for this role.
