Embedded Software Engineer
Innatera NanosystemsJob Title
Embedded Software Engineer
Role Summary
Join Innatera's headquarters in the Netherlands to develop and maintain embedded software that supports new neuromorphic chips and the SDK product. The role operates at the intersection of embedded software and semiconductor development, collaborating with hardware, firmware, and application teams to deliver drivers, tests, and tooling for edge-AI sensor systems.
Experience Level
Mid-level β typically requires 3+ years of embedded software development experience, primarily using C.
Responsibilities
Design, implement, test, and maintain embedded software components and test programs. Work closely with cross-disciplinary teams and perform hardware-level debugging and verification.
- Design, implement, maintain, and test embedded software components (device drivers and comparable systems).
- Debug and resolve complex embedded-system issues; perform root-cause analysis using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and hardware debuggers.
- Plan development tasks, estimate effort, and deliver work packages on schedule and to quality standards.
- Provide technical consultation on development strategy and assess risks and technical gaps early.
- Define requirements for embedded software components and implement/maintain corresponding tests (embedded test programs, scripts).
- Collaborate with application, hardware, and other engineering teams on requirements and design for embedded software.
Requirements
Core qualifications and skills required for day-to-day work; separate list for desirable skills.
Must-have
- 3+ years of embedded software development experience in C.
- Practical experience with version control systems, especially Git and GitLab.
- Experience with HIL testing and using hardware debuggers for embedded targets.
- Experience using requirements management tools.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Nice-to-have
- Previous semiconductor industry experience.
- Understanding of RISC assembly, especially RISC-V.
- Experience with Python for tooling or test automation.
- Familiarity with machine learning, neural networks, or mixed-signal IC development.
- Basic knowledge of analog and digital electrical circuits.
Education Requirements
BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
