Embedded Software Engineer
Role Summary
Lead the design and development of embedded software for next-generation automotive safety and connectivity products within the Automotive Software team. Work across software, hardware, validation, and systems engineering to deliver production-quality firmware and influence product architecture.
Recent project areas include low-power wireless stacks, microcontroller drivers, sensor networks, edge computing, connected gateways, radio transceiver firmware, and functional-safety software.
Experience Level
Mid-level β typically requires 5+ years of embedded software development experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include leading technical work, delivering embedded firmware into production, and collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams.
- Define and implement embedded software architectures and modules for ARM-based microcontrollers and SoCs.
- Design, implement, and maintain device drivers, hardware abstraction layers, and interrupt-driven firmware.
- Develop and optimise firmware for resource-constrained, real-time systems (performance, memory, power).
- Integrate communication stacks, wireless protocols, and cloud connectivity where required.
- Drive technical investigations, debugging, and root-cause analysis of hardware/software issues.
- Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and contribute to team engineering practices.
- Collaborate with product, systems, validation, and test teams to take products from concept to production.
- Participate in design reviews, functional-safety discussions, and architecture decisions.
- Travel as required for collaboration or field support (approximately 10% of the time).
Requirements
Key technical skills and experience required (must-have followed by desirable skills).

Must have: 5+ years of embedded software development experience delivering products to production.
- Expert-level C programming and solid embedded software design principles.
- Experience developing production-quality firmware for ARM-based microcontrollers and SoCs.
- Strong understanding of real-time systems, interrupt-driven architectures, and low-level hardware interfaces.
- Experience developing and debugging device drivers and hardware abstraction layers.
- Proficiency with compilers, debuggers, IDEs, embedded toolchains, and Git-based workflows.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, automated testing, and software quality processes.
- Ability to lead technical projects and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with scripting (Python or Bash) for automation, testing, and tooling.
Nice-to-have:
- Automotive software development and functional-safety experience (ISO 26262).
- Wireless communications, RF systems, networking protocols, or secure boot/embedded security.
- Linux-based embedded systems, IoT architectures, cloud integration, and Agile methodologies.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or master's degree in computer engineering, embedded systems engineering, electronic engineering, computer science, or a related discipline (as stated in the posting).
