Job Title

EM/IR Engineer

Role Summary

Perform EM/IR signoff and power-integrity tasks for complex SoCs, including IR-drop analysis, electromigration checks, power-grid optimization, and power estimation. Work within the hardware engineering organization and coordinate with physical design, STA, packaging teams, and EDA vendors to meet signoff and manufacturability requirements.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical background: 4–6+ years in hardware engineering or physical-design signoff. Posting guidance: Bachelor's +6 years; Master's +5 years; PhD +4 years.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include EM/IR analysis, debugging, automation, and cross-functional coordination.

  • Perform static and dynamic IR-drop and electromigration (EM) analysis and optimize power-grid designs for complex SoCs.
  • Run power estimation using PrimePower and maintain EM/IR signoff dashboards and status reports.
  • Analyze and resolve EM/IR simulation and tool-related issues; update flows for new features and process nodes.
  • Develop and maintain automation and parsing scripts using Python, Tcl, or Perl to streamline signoff flows and reporting.
  • Partner with physical design, STA, packaging, and related teams to identify layout/PDN bottlenecks and suggest fixes.
  • Collaborate with EDA vendors to qualify tool flows, test features, and debug tool problems.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • 5+ years of hardware engineering experience focused on physical-design signoff, power integrity, or IR/EM analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with Ansys RedHawk, Cadence Voltus, and PrimePower.
  • Strong understanding of EM/IR fundamentals and physical-design flows (floorplanning, routing, extraction).
  • Proficient scripting in Python or Tcl; familiarity with Perl is useful.
  • Experience working with PD, STA, packaging teams and collaborating with EDA vendors.

Nice-to-have: experience with additional EDA tools, C/C++, or prior SoC signoff on advanced process nodes.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, VLSI, or a related engineering field. Posting specifies experience minimums tied to degree level: Bachelor's +6 years; Master's +5 years; PhD +4 years in hardware engineering or related work.
