LumentumJob Title
Electronics Engineer
Role Summary
Design and deliver advanced electro-optic PCBA hardware for optical switching systems, driving projects from concept through NPI to production. The role leads small teams and collaborates with firmware, software, optical, manufacturing, and mechanical groups to produce manufacturable, validated products.
Work includes schematic capture, PCB layout guidance, simulation, test development, and design-for-manufacturing activities. Accommodation requests: contact talentacquisition@lumentum.com.
Experience Level
Senior - requires substantial experience; the posting specifies a minimum of 10 years of applicable experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical leadership of hardware design and validation across the product lifecycle.
- Lead design and development of analog, mixed-signal, and power hardware for optical systems from concept to production.
- Guide a small team of designers and verification engineers through development and handoff to manufacturing.
- Specify and evaluate components (laser drivers, TIAs, amplifiers, ADC/DAC, microcontrollers, power components).
- Provide detailed schematics, PCB layout guidance, and perform circuit simulation using industry tools.
- Develop and execute hardware test plans; validate performance and reliability using lab equipment.
- Define test requirements and support New Product Introduction (NPI) and manufacturing transfer.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (firmware, software, optical, mechanical, MFG) to resolve system-level issues.
Requirements
Core technical skills and team leadership expected for successful performance. Degrees and years of experience are listed under Education Requirements below and have been removed from these bullets.
Must-have:
- Expertise in complex PCBA design and design-for-manufacturing considerations.
- Experience leading small design teams (layout, junior designers, verification engineers).
- Proficiency with hardware design and simulation tools such as Cadence and Ansys.
- Hands-on experience with lab test equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.).
- Strong low-frequency analog and mixed-signal design skills.
- Extensive knowledge of electronic components, circuit behavior, fabrication and assembly processes.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with power/digital design and control systems.
- Familiarity with optical architectures and electro-optic systems.
- Knowledge of DC power circuitry.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. The posting specifies a minimum of 10 years of applicable experience.
