Job Title

Electro-Optic Systems Architect

Role Summary

Lead electro-optic system architecture and modeling to ensure Passage’s electrical–optical–electrical links meet performance and customer requirements. Partner with cross-disciplinary engineering teams to simulate, analyze, and validate system-level solutions and prototypes.

Location: Toronto, ON. Hybrid workplace model.

Experience Level

Mid-level professional. Specific years of experience not stated; role expects advanced technical expertise and independent problem solving.

Responsibilities

Main responsibilities include modeling, co-design, validation, and specification work:

  • Perform electro-optic system modeling using Cadence photonics/analog simulators (Verilog-A, Spectre, Virtuoso), VPI Photonics, and Keysight ADS.
  • Co-design analog and photonic devices with engineering teams based on end-to-end simulation results.
  • Design and execute high-speed RF/mm-wave experiments to validate models and prototypes; analyze measurement data.
  • Validate models via corner analysis and Monte Carlo analysis.
  • Author, review, and validate architectural specifications and provide actionable feedback to design teams.
  • Collaborate across disciplines (optical, RF, mixed-signal, system engineering) to drive product readiness.

Requirements

Core technical skills and experience required. Preferred items listed separately.

  • Proficient with Cadence photonics/analog simulators (Virtuoso, Spectre, Verilog-A), Ansys HFSS, and Keysight ADS.
  • Highly proficient coding simulations in Python or MATLAB.
  • Strong experience in RF/mm-wave analog circuit design and high-speed measurement techniques.
  • Experience with corner analysis and Monte Carlo analysis for system robustness.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills for complex, ambiguous technical problems.
  • Ability and desire to collaborate in a cross-disciplinary engineering team.
  • Must be able to comply with applicable U.S. export control requirements.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with silicon photonic integrated circuit design and test.
  • Knowledge of signal processing and signal integrity in optical communications.
  • Familiarity with SERDES and mixed-signal interfaces.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Education Requirements

PhD in electrical engineering, physics, applied physics, or a discipline related to photonics required.
