Electrical Engineering Intern, Summer 2027
Role Summary
Participant in BAE Systems' LEAP Internship & Co-op Program working with the Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit. The role supports design, analysis, verification, and test of high-reliability space electronic hardware and subsystems.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship. Candidates must have completed their sophomore or junior year and be enrolled in an accredited degree program for Fall 2027; graduate students are also accepted.
Responsibilities
Core technical responsibilities and day-to-day tasks include:
- Support design and analysis of hardware for space-based, high-reliability electronic systems.
- Perform modeling, simulation, and engineering analyses (WCA, PSA, reliability, signal integrity, risk mitigation).
- Develop and verify digital designs and FPGA modules; participate in digital verification.
- Work on analog/mixed-signal and power-supply electronic design as required.
- Design and implement test fixtures and test plans for chip- and board-level validation; create reusable test circuits.
- Collaborate with Parts Engineers to select and qualify EEE parts to meet program requirements.
- Support PWB packaging, layout, and harness development for electrical systems.
- Maintain regular, predictable work schedule and establish effective working relationships across teams.
- Perform other duties as necessary to support program delivery.
Requirements
Minimum and preferred qualifications for successful candidates.
- Must-have: U.S. Person / U.S. Citizenship required.
- Must-have: Ability to work on-site full time (regular in-person engagement, typically five days per week) and perform work in laboratory, cleanroom, or production environments.
- Must-have: Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity or coursework in FPGA design and verification, digital signal processing, SERDES/PCIe/SpaceWire interfaces, analog/mixed-signal design, PCB layout, and test-fixture development.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with parts selection/qualification, reliability analysis, or modeling and simulation tools.
- No security clearance currently required for this posting.
Education Requirements
Must be enrolled in an accredited university, college, or school for Fall 2027 and have completed at least the sophomore or junior year; graduate students are also accepted. Degree must be from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
