Electrical Engineer – Embedded Systems
Role Summary
Hands-on electrical engineer responsible for developing, testing, and integrating data-acquisition hardware and embedded systems for metal additive manufacturing. The role spans PCB hardware, embedded firmware, FPGA IP, and system-level integration to take electronic systems from prototype to production.
Position is based at Tailored Alloys in Evans, GA and works with a small engineering team focused on data acquisition and monitoring systems.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting does not specify explicit years-of-experience requirements.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include hardware, firmware, FPGA, and system integration tasks:
- Design, develop, test, and validate embedded data-acquisition systems.
- Design and troubleshoot analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronics; support PCB schematic development, layout, component selection, and bring-up.
- Develop embedded firmware and system software in C/C++ for control, data acquisition, diagnostics, and communication.
- Develop, modify, and integrate FPGA IP using Verilog, VHDL, or SystemVerilog and manage data flow between programmable logic, processors, peripherals, and external devices.
- Evaluate and integrate ADCs, sensors, peripherals, and other electronic components to meet system requirements.
- Develop and troubleshoot Ethernet-based and other hardware communication interfaces and real-time data streaming.
- Develop automated hardware test and diagnostic systems; support hardware bring-up and troubleshooting using standard lab equipment.
- Support full-system integration, testing, documentation, and cross-layer troubleshooting across hardware, firmware, APIs, and application software.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and practical experience:
- Practical experience developing, integrating, or troubleshooting embedded electronic systems.
- PCB design, layout, component selection, and hardware bring-up experience.
- Embedded software development in C/C++.
- Experience with FPGA-based systems and an understanding of FPGA development fundamentals.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and troubleshoot hardware using standard laboratory equipment.
- Experience integrating system peripherals and hardware interfaces; familiarity with Ethernet and network protocols.
- Familiarity with Git-based development workflows.
- Nice-to-have: experience with the AMD Xilinx ecosystem, high-throughput data acquisition, mixed-signal design involving ADCs and sensors, and automated hardware testing.
Education Requirements
