Electrical Engineer, Compute Architecture

Role Summary

Work on Neuralink's Surgery & Robotics Hardware Team to design, verify, and transition FPGA-based electronics and real-time processing systems into production. The role focuses on high-speed image processing, real-time motor control, sensor integration, and firmware for robotics and medical devices.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include system design, verification, and production handoff for custom electronics and FPGA-based systems.

  • Architect and implement FPGA-based designs for time-sensitive, high-performance applications (image processing, data acquisition, control).
  • Develop RTL (Verilog / SystemVerilog) and DSP implementations for real-time pipelines.
  • Design and validate high-speed interfaces and transceiver integration (PCIe, MIPI, SLVS-EC, LVDS, JESD204, Ethernet, etc.).
  • Perform timing closure, clock-domain crossing analysis, and resource optimization.
  • Lead schematic, part selection, PCB layout coordination, and manufacturing handoff.
  • Conduct hardware validation, lab debugging, and performance tuning of real-time systems.
  • Integrate sensors and cameras for robotics stages and support manufacturing automation and firmware development.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • Professional track record delivering all phases of electronics development: requirements, part selection, schematic, layout oversight, manufacturing, and test.
  • Strong FPGA hardware design experience for high-performance, time-sensitive systems.
  • RTL development in Verilog / SystemVerilog and practical DSP implementation skills.
  • Experience with high-speed interface design, timing closure, CDC, and transceiver/PHY integration.
  • Hands-on hardware validation and lab debugging of real-time FPGA systems.
  • Practical electronics design for EMC, ESD, thermal considerations, and packaging.

Nice-to-have:

  • Portfolio of hardware/FPGA projects.
  • Experience with safety-critical systems (medical, aerospace, automotive, military).
  • Altium PCB design experience.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Compensation (posted): Base salary range $105,000–$175,500 USD; actual pay determined by skills, experience, and education. Full-time employees are also eligible for equity (RSUs) and benefits.
