Job Title
Electrical Design Engineer, Gateways & Customer Hardware (Starlink)
Role Summary
Design and deliver electrical systems for Starlink customer terminals, consumer networking products, and regional gateway hardware. The role owns design, verification, and production support from concept through full-scale manufacturing.
Work cross-functionally with silicon, software, mechanical, thermal, manufacturing, and test teams to ensure reliable high-performance hardware in harsh environments and at high volumes.
Experience Level
Entry-level — requires 1+ years of professional experience designing circuits, electronic products, or hardware.
Responsibilities
Deliver and support end-to-end electrical designs for customer and gateway hardware.
- Design, develop, and test electronics for satellite communication products.
- Capture requirements, perform system trade studies, and select components.
- Create schematics and PCB layouts; prototype and perform hardware bring-up.
- Debug electronics in lab and field; develop test procedures and production test fixtures.
- Collaborate with mechanical, thermal, software, manufacturing, and supply-chain teams.
- Support production, satellite integration, and ongoing hardware field support.
- Analyze performance data and drive continual design improvements.
- Document designs and hand off to manufacturing and test engineering.
Requirements
Key skills and constraints for candidates.
- Minimum 1+ years professional experience designing circuits, electronic products, or hardware.
- Experience testing, troubleshooting, and debugging electronics in lab and prototype environments.
- Practical experience with embedded processors, FPGAs, Ethernet, multi-GHz SerDes, DRAM interfaces (DDR4), I2C/SPI, op-amps, ADC/DACs, and power supplies is strongly preferred.
- Experience delivering hardware from concept through production; emphasis on full lifecycle development.
- Proficiency with programming or scripting (Python, C/C++) for test, automation, or analysis tasks.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate design tradeoffs clearly.
- Willingness to work extended hours or weekends as needed for mission-critical deadlines.
- ITAR constraint: must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or otherwise eligible for required U.S. Department of State authorizations.
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or another engineering discipline. Preferred: Master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a similar engineering field. (Source also lists professional experience expectations.)
