Job Title

Electrical Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and validate board- and system-level solutions that integrate Lightmatter's photonics technology for advanced machine learning, AI, and large-scale interconnect platforms. Work across hardware and software teams to take designs from concept through bring-up, verification, and production.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The role requests a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years related experience, or a Master's with 3+ years.

Responsibilities

Deliver hardware designs and validate system performance through hands-on development and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Design power, control, mixed-signal, and high-speed interconnect circuits to meet system requirements.
  • Apply signal integrity (SI), power integrity (PI), DfX, and industry best practices to meet performance and quality targets.
  • Perform board bring-up, verification, integration, and troubleshooting in lab environments.
  • Develop and execute test plans to characterize and validate board and system performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams from concept design through integration and production.
  • Work with component vendors, contract manufacturers, and other external partners.
  • Research components, processes, and technologies to meet product objectives.
  • Contribute to design reviews and maintain design notes, test reports, and specifications.

Requirements

Core technical skills and experience required or strongly preferred for successful execution of the role.

  • Must-have: Proficient in schematic design using Altium or equivalent (Altium preferred).
  • Must-have: Hands-on experience with lab experiments, board bring-up, testing, and analysis.
  • Must-have: Experience developing and executing hardware test plans and documentation.
  • Must-have: Experience collaborating with vendors and contract manufacturers.
  • Must-have: Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management processes and tools (Arena preferred).
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with electrical systems in networking or similar industries.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with design, manufacturing, and test processes for high-volume hardware.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with SI/PI/DfX considerations and high-speed interfaces (PCIe, DDR, Ethernet, SerDes).
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with Python or other scripting languages for test automation and lab tooling.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of related experience, or Master's Degree with 3+ years of related experience.
