Job Title

EDA Tools Software Engineer

Role Summary

Join Intel Foundry's Foundry Technology Manufacturing (FTM) Advanced Packaging Technology and Manufacturing (APTM) group to develop, maintain, and improve EDA/CAD tooling and automation for advanced package design. The role partners with internal design teams, CAD groups, infrastructure partners, and external EDA vendors to resolve tool issues, define features, and deliver scalable design flows.

This position focuses on improving engineering productivity for package and multi-die design through tool development, validation, and documentation.

Experience Level

Mid-level - typically requires at least 4 years of relevant experience in IC digital design, package design, or EDA tooling.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include supporting EDA tools, improving flows, and enabling design teams.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve user issues with EDA tools, internal automation, engineering environments, and design flow execution.
  • Gather requirements from engineering teams, identify pain points, and drive continuous design-flow improvements and new feature deployments.
  • Collaborate with internal design, reliability, and CAD teams and with external EDA vendors to define and implement tool features and fixes.
  • Develop technical documentation, user guides, and best-known methods to improve design efficiency and methodologies.
  • Build and execute test cases for debugging, validation, and tool signoffs for advanced technologies.
  • Create and verify package designs and hierarchical integrations to support end-to-end EDA tool testing.
  • Provide customer support and communicate effectively with a large end-user community and stakeholders.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • Minimum 4+ years experience in IC digital design, package design, or working with EDA tools.
  • Hands-on experience with EDA vendors/tools such as Cadence, Synopsys, or Siemens (examples: Cadence Virtuoso, Innovus, Synopsys 3DIC Compiler, Siemens Calibre).
  • Scripting and automation experience: Python, TCL, SKILL, VBScript, Perl, or similar.
  • Experience interfacing with customers and stakeholders to analyze design challenges and define functional specifications.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills; customer-oriented support mindset.
  • Ability to work across multiple tasks, drive solutions, and coordinate with cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with computational geometry, silicon or assembly processes, or test and characterization techniques.
  • Experience with large SoC or multi-die package implementation flows and supporting CAD/design automation environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership on cross-functional infrastructure and automation improvement initiatives.

Education Requirements

Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Development, Software Engineering, or a related STEM field. Preferred: Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM field.
