Job Title

EDA Tools Software Engineer

Role Summary

Join the PDK Reliability Verification / EMIR team to develop, qualify, and deliver production-quality EM/IR reliability collateral and methodologies for advanced process technologies. The role supports multiple EDA platforms and works across PDK, extraction, verification, and customer-facing teams.

This position is eligible for Intel's hybrid work model and will work with teams across Intel sites including Phoenix, Folsom, and Santa Clara.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Requires multiple years of relevant semiconductor or EDA engineering experience; see Education Requirements for degree/experience combinations.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include development, qualification, validation, and cross-tool correlation of EM/IR collateral and related automation.

  • Develop, qualify, and maintain PDK EMIR collateral, documentation, and technology-specific configurations.
  • Contribute to PDK and Reliability Technology Kit (RTK) development, QA, and release readiness.
  • Create and maintain test structures and automated validation for EM/IR collateral; perform cross-tool correlation.
  • Enable new process features and advanced interconnect structures across current and future process technologies.
  • Debug modeling and correlation issues across extraction, EM/IR analysis, PDK collateral, and EDA tools to confirmed resolution.
  • Work with EDA vendors (Synopsys, Cadence, Ansys) on tool qualification, issue resolution, and release readiness.
  • Improve development and QA efficiency through scripting, regression infrastructure, data analysis, and where appropriate AI-assisted methods.
  • Collaborate with PDK, Extraction, LVS, QnR, ASIC RV, and design-flow teams to support production readiness and customer needs.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience (concise).

  • Strong semiconductor design, EDA, physical-design, PDK, or reliability-verification background.
  • Practical experience in one or more areas: electromigration/IR or reliability verification, parasitic extraction, SPICE/post-layout simulation, physical verification, or EDA tool qualification.
  • Strong scripting/automation skills (Python, Tcl, Perl, Skill, or equivalent) and experience building validation or regression infrastructure.
  • Strong debugging skills across technology collateral, extraction, simulation, and analysis.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively across multiple engineering organizations and with EDA vendors.

Nice-to-have / preferred

  • Experience with Totem/Totem-SC, PrimeSim-EMIR, Voltus/Voltus-XFi, RedHawk-SC, StarRC, Quantus/QRC, or similar tools.
  • Understanding of electromigration, IR drop, current-density limits, via/metal reliability, resistance modeling, and advanced interconnect structures.
  • Experience developing automated test structures, regression environments, correlation methodologies, or production PDK QA.
  • Experience qualifying next-generation EMIR/extraction capabilities and advanced-node PDK development and release processes.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree plus 4+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree plus 3+ years of relevant experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field; or equivalent practical experience.
