Job Title

EDA Tools Engineer

Role Summary

The EDA Tools Engineer will develop and maintain hardware design automation tools, flows, and methodologies to enable efficient semiconductor design and improve power, performance, and area (PPA). The role works within Intel's Central Engineering Group and collaborates with cross-functional engineering teams and EDA vendors to validate tool flows and enable new technology nodes.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical experience: 3+ years with a Bachelor’s degree or 2+ years with a Master’s degree (see Education Requirements for details).

Responsibilities

Deliver and support EDA tool flows, platform integration, and verification to meet design and PPA targets.

  • Design, implement, and verify hardware design tools, flows, and methodologies.
  • Support Technology and Flow Management (TFM) and enablement for new process nodes and vendor tool flows.
  • Create and verify hardware designs and assemble platforms for end-to-end EDA tool testing.
  • Develop and maintain platforms, databases, scripts, and automated flows for design automation.
  • Analyze power and performance; contribute to clocking, timing, and full-chip integration tasks.
  • Collaborate with EDA vendors to define, test, and adopt next-generation tools.
  • Debug and resolve complex engineering and tool-related issues; drive disciplined problem-solving.

Requirements

Essential technical skills and knowledge required to perform the role.

  • Proficiency in scripting for automation (Python, Perl, or TCL).
  • Foundational knowledge of design infrastructure tools and hardware development methodologies.
  • Basic understanding of digital design, physical design, verification, and performance optimization.
  • Experience developing, testing, and analyzing engineering design automation tools and flows.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills; ability to work with cross-functional teams and vendors.
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with synthesis and APR flows, vendor tool methodologies, hardware architecture, and emerging physical design technologies.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline — or equivalent combination of education and experience. The posting specifies 3+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 2+ years with a Master's degree.
