EDA Tool Software Engineer
Intel CorporationJob Title
EDA Tool Software Engineer
Role Summary
Develop, enable, and validate EDA vendor tools for RC extraction and high-frequency/EM analysis on advanced process technologies. Work with technology specification owners, validation teams, and EDA vendors to deliver accurate, production-ready tool flows and integrations.
The role is part of Intel Foundry and supports customer and internal design flow enablement for interconnect and EM analysis.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typical candidates have 3+ years of relevant EDA tool enablement or interconnect/EM experience; hiring criteria vary by degree (see Education Requirements).
Responsibilities
Primary duties focus on tool enablement, validation, and cross-team coordination.
- Enable and validate RC extraction flows (e.g., StarRC, Quantus, xACT) and EM/high-frequency tools.
- Develop and maintain scripts and automation for tool flows (Perl, Python, or TCL).
- Integrate interconnect/EM analysis stacks into foundry flows and ensure accuracy on Intel process technologies.
- Coordinate with specification owners, validation teams, and EDA vendors for feature enablement and bug resolution.
- Debug customer and internal issues related to extraction, EM analysis, and sign-off flows.
- Validate tool performance and accuracy; participate in tool regression and qualification efforts.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
- Experience enabling RC extraction flows or developing interconnect/EM stacks for EDA tools.
- Scripting proficiency in Perl, Python, or TCL for automation and flow integration.
- Experience with EM/high-frequency analysis tools and workflows (e.g., Keysight-momentum, Ansys, Cadence-EMX) is highly useful.
- Ability to work with EDA vendors to enable features and custom solutions.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills; experience supporting customers or internal users.
- Familiarity with version control and issue tracking (e.g., GIT, JIRA).
Nice-to-have:
- DRC/LVS runset development or validation experience (Calibre, Pegasus, ICV).
- Experience with Keysight-momentum or other high-frequency EM tools for signal integrity/crosstalk analysis.
- Proficiency with CMOS process technology and on-chip/on-package interconnect modeling.
Education Requirements
Minimum qualifications: BS with 6+ years relevant experience, MS with 5+ years, or PhD with 2+ years in Electrical Engineering (EE), Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), or a related technical field. Equivalent practical experience considered where stated.
