EDA Technical Program Manager

Role Summary

Senior Technical Program Manager responsible for leading complex, cross-functional programs across Physical Design, EDA/CAD, semiconductor development, and FPGA engineering teams. The role partners with senior engineering leadership and architects to define program strategy and drive execution from planning through delivery and operationalization.

Experience Level

Senior. Typical guidance: 8–10+ years of relevant experience (minimum qualifications specify 10+ years with a bachelor's or 8+ years with a master's).

Responsibilities

Drive strategic, multi-organization technical programs supporting next-generation FPGA technologies and EDA tool/flow development.

  • Lead end-to-end execution of highly complex technical programs across Physical Design, CAD/EDA, RTL, verification, validation, and product engineering.
  • Define program strategy, scope, success criteria, milestones, critical paths, and delivery commitments.
  • Establish integrated program plans, dashboards, metrics, governance, and escalation paths for executive visibility.
  • Identify and mitigate technical and organizational risks; resolve cross-team dependencies and execution conflicts.
  • Present program status, risks, and recovery plans to senior engineering leadership and executives.
  • Influence stakeholders without direct authority to secure alignment and accountability.
  • Coordinate technology transitions, tool deployments, methodology changes, and infrastructure initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement in program management practices, engineering processes, and predictability.
  • Mentor other Technical Program Managers and promote consistent program management practices.

Requirements

Must-have experience and skills required for successful performance in this role.

  • 10+ years in Technical Program Management or Engineering Program Management; 8+ years managing complex, cross-functional technical programs is acceptable depending on education background.
  • 8+ years managing programs within semiconductor, FPGA, ASIC, EDA, CAD, hardware, or related technology industries.
  • 5+ years working directly with semiconductor development, Physical Design, EDA/CAD, or related engineering organizations.
  • Proven track record managing program schedules, milestones, dependencies, risks, and multi-team deliverables across distributed organizations.
  • Experience driving cross-functional execution across architecture, RTL, verification, software, and product engineering teams.
  • Skilled in program planning and tools such as Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Project, or Smartsheet; experienced in executive-level reporting and metrics.
  • Strong ability to identify technical dependencies, anticipate execution risks, and drive data-based decision making.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior technical stakeholders and manage competing priorities with limited direct authority.
  • Ability to operate autonomously and adapt in rapidly changing technical and organizational environments.

Education Requirements

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering Management, or a related technical discipline with 10+ years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with 8+ years of relevant experience. Preferred: Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering Management, or an MBA. Program/project management certifications such as PMP, PgMP, Agile, or Scrum Master are listed as beneficial.
