EDA Physical Design Technical Program Manager

Role Summary

Drive cross-functional execution for Physical Design and EDA engineering programs supporting next-generation FPGA and design automation development. Partner with engineering leaders, architects, software developers, physical design engineers, and product teams to plan, coordinate, and deliver complex technical initiatives from concept through execution.

Responsibilities

Own end-to-end program delivery and provide executive visibility into program health, risks, and schedules.

  • Lead complex technical programs across Physical Design, CAD/EDA, Software, Architecture, Verification, Validation, and Product Engineering.
  • Develop and maintain integrated schedules, milestones, dependencies, and risk mitigation plans.
  • Track program health with metrics, dashboards, and executive-level reporting.
  • Facilitate technical discussions to identify risks and remove execution roadblocks.
  • Coordinate cross-team planning across multiple product teams and balance priorities and staffing.
  • Lead program reviews and present status, financial considerations, and risks to engineering leadership and executives.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define program requirements and interdependencies.
  • Drive improvements in program management processes and mentor project teams on best practices.
  • Foster collaboration across geographically distributed teams to ensure alignment and accountability.

Requirements

Must-have technical program management skills and relevant industry experience.

  • Experience managing technical programs or engineering projects in semiconductor, hardware, software, EDA, or technology industries (posting lists multi-year experience).
  • Proven experience coordinating cross-functional engineering teams to deliver complex programs from planning through execution.
  • Experience developing and managing project schedules, milestones, dependencies, critical paths, and deliverables.
  • Experience identifying and managing program risks, issues, and mitigation plans while driving projects to milestones.
  • Experience partnering with engineering, architecture, product management, software, and hardware teams to execute programs.
  • Experience presenting program status, schedules, risks, and executive-level updates to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with project and program management tools such as Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Project, or Smartsheet.

Preferred / Nice-to-have

  • Experience within the semiconductor, FPGA, ASIC, or Electronic Design Automation (EDA) industry.
  • Familiarity with Physical Design workflows (floorplanning, place-and-route, timing closure, clock tree synthesis, power optimization).
  • Experience with EDA tools from Synopsys, Cadence, or Siemens EDA.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent technical programs in a fast-paced engineering organization.

Education Requirements

Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering Management, or a related technical discipline plus 3+ years of Technical Program Management experience; alternatively a Master's degree in a related field plus 2+ years of Technical Program Management experience. Preferred: Master's degree (including MBA) in related fields. Project/program management certifications such as PMP, PgMP, Agile, or Scrum Master are listed as a plus.
