NVIDIAJob Title
EDA License Engineer
Role Summary
The EDA License Engineer manages and optimizes engineering software licensing infrastructure to ensure high availability, compliance, and efficient license usage for engineering teams.
This role operates and improves FlexLM/FLEXnet license servers, partners with tool owners and infrastructure teams, and leads small-to-medium projects to scale licensing workflows and tooling.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typical expectation: 5+ years of relevant experience in licensing, systems administration, or production infrastructure operations.
Responsibilities
Primary operational and project responsibilities include:
- Operate and maintain FlexLM/FLEXnet license servers on Linux: installs, upgrades, renewals, rereads, and decommissioning.
- Diagnose and resolve license checkout, availability, and performance issues using lmstat, logs, and telemetry.
- Collaborate with EDA tool owners, infrastructure, and security teams to enforce license compliance, access control, and export-restricted usage policies.
- Improve reliability and observability of license infrastructure via automation, monitoring, and analysis of usage trends.
- Lead or own small-to-medium projects to improve licensing workflows, tooling, or operational scalability.
- Create and maintain documentation, runbooks, and operational guidelines for license management.
- Act as technical point of contact for license-related incidents that impact engineering efficiency.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and traits:
- Hands-on experience with FlexLM / FLEXnet licensing: server configuration, license files, daemons, and troubleshooting.
- Solid Linux system administration (RHEL/CentOS): process management, logging, basic networking, and scripting ability.
- Experience operating production infrastructure with high availability and reliability expectations.
- Ability to work independently within broadly defined objectives and exercise sound technical judgment.
- Proven collaboration and clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Nice-to-have:
- Automation experience using Python, shell scripting, or tooling like Ansible.
- Familiarity with Reprise License Manager and license allocation methods (options files, dedicated pools, scheduler integration).
- Experience supporting EDA toolchains (Synopsys, Cadence, Siemens) in large engineering environments.
- Exposure to security, export-control, or access-restriction requirements in shared compute environments.
- Prior ownership of infrastructure projects that improved reliability, scalability, or operational efficiency.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field, or equivalent practical experience.
