EDA/CAD Software Engineer (Multiple Levels)
QualcommJob Title
EDA/CAD Software Engineer (Multiple Levels)
Role Summary
Join Qualcomm's Global CAD team to develop tools, flows, and algorithms for VLSI emulation and CAD infrastructure. The role focuses on building emulation CAD capabilities used across SoC design flows.
Typical activities include developing synthesis/partitioning/place-and-route and clock-optimization algorithms, improving compute and storage efficiency, and mentoring other engineers on the team.
Experience Level
Mid-level (Level - Mid-Career). Multiple levels will be considered; typical candidates have ~2+ years of relevant experience in ASIC/FPGA/CAD or C++ software development.
Responsibilities
Accountabilities for this role include designing and delivering CAD software and algorithms for emulation and related VLSI tasks.
- Design and implement emulation CAD algorithms (synthesis, partitioning, place & route, clock optimization).
- Develop and maintain CAD tools, flows, and automation used in VLSI design and emulation.
- Optimize compute and storage usage for CAD workloads and tool chains.
- Integrate and work with industry-standard EDA tools and infrastructure.
- Debug, profile, and improve performance of CAD software components.
- Collaborate with SoC design teams to deliver customer-facing solutions and integrations.
- Mentor and lead other engineers; review designs and promote engineering best practices.
Requirements
Minimal and preferred technical skills and experience relevant to the role.
- Must-have: Practical software development experience in C++ or equivalent; solid knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
- Must-have: Hands-on experience with Linux-based development and common tooling (Git, GCC).
- Preferred: Experience in CAD tool development or ASIC/FPGA design, verification, or emulation workflows.
- Preferred: Familiarity with RTL synthesis (SystemVerilog → netlist), clock tree optimization, and VLSI design concepts.
- Preferred: Experience with job schedulers and infrastructure such as LSF, and with tracking tools such as JIRA.
- Strong interpersonal and analytical skills; ability to work independently and deliver production-quality software.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field is required. A Master’s or PhD in Computer Science or Computer Engineering is preferred.
