EDA & CAD Manager

Role Summary

The EDA & CAD Manager will build and operate a robust IC design environment that supports analog, mixed-signal, and digital teams. This role owns EDA methodology, CAD flows, tool administration, automation, and infrastructure to improve design reliability and velocity.

Report to IC design and engineering leadership and partner with IT to scale tools, PDKs, and compute infrastructure across multiple programs.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include overseeing EDA tools, infrastructure, and automation to support multiple IC design disciplines.

• Lead EDA tool upgrades, methodology improvements, and infrastructure changes across analog, mixed-signal, layout, verification, and digital flows.
• Manage repositories for PDKs, internal/external IP, design data, and vendor tools with configuration control and reproducibility.
• Advise leadership on EDA strategy, tool investments, scalability, and methodology roadmaps.
• Develop and deploy custom tools, scripts, plugins, and automation to improve designer productivity and adoption.
• Support CAD flows using tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre, Pegasus, Genus, Innovus, Xcelium, Synopsys IC Compiler, Siemens EDA, and Calibre.
• Administer and troubleshoot EDA infrastructure: Linux/Unix environments, compute-farm integration, environment modules, tool-version management, and license servers.
• Build and maintain automated regression, validation, build, and deployment pipelines for EDA tools and design flows.
• Monitor and evaluate advances in EDA tools, CAD methodologies, license and IP management relevant to the company.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required to succeed in this role.

• Deep knowledge of Cadence and Synopsys tool flows, including analog/mixed-signal tools (Virtuoso, AMS, Spectre).
• Experience with layout and signoff tools (PVS, Pegasus, Calibre) and synthesis/APR/physical design tools (Genus, Innovus, Fusion Compiler).
• Experience supporting multiple PDKs; familiarity with Intel, TSMC, and GlobalFoundries preferred.
• Proven experience with revision control and repository administration (Perforce, VersIC, Git, or similar).
• Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, Perl, Tcl, Bash/Shell, SKILL) for EDA flows, environment setup, and log parsing.
• Experience administering FlexNet/FlexLM license servers and troubleshooting license checkout/daemon issues.
• Strong Linux/Unix troubleshooting and compute-farm integration experience (LSF, Slurm, or Grid Engine).
• Track record of improving reliability, usability, and scalability of design environments for EDA users.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with remote computing platforms (e.g., ETX) and supporting distributed engineering teams.
• Systems administration skills across Linux, storage, and compute infrastructure.
• Familiarity with build systems (Make, CMake) and reproducible Makefile-based flows.
• Experience with CI/CD and regression infrastructure (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions) for automated EDA pipelines.
