E-core Senior CPU Physical Design Engineer
Intel CorporationJob Title
E-core Senior CPU Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Join a CPU physical design team responsible for implementation of Intel Atom (E-core) CPU blocks from synthesis through post-layout verification and tapeout. The role focuses on synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure, power reduction, and collaboration with micro-architecture, RTL, and circuit teams.
This position is eligible for Intel's hybrid work model (split between assigned Intel site and off-site).
Experience Level
Senior - minimum 7 years of relevant experience; senior-level responsibilities and mentoring of junior engineers expected.
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities include:
- Drive logic synthesis and place-and-route (APR) for CPU core IP blocks.
- Perform floorplanning, routing studies, and block/sub-system implementation to meet timing and power targets.
- Conduct block and sub-system level timing analysis and closure.
- Apply low-power techniques and implement power-reduction strategies at sub-system level.
- Perform physical verification closure (DRC/LVS, IR, electromigration checks) and signoff preparation.
- Develop scripts and automation for data analysis and recipe creation.
- Collaborate with micro-architecture, RTL, and custom circuit teams to converge designs to targets.
- Mentor and guide junior team members and contribute to a high-performing team under aggressive schedules.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Minimum 7 years experience in CPU physical design and timing verification (block/sub-system level).
- Hands-on experience with synthesis and APR flows for multi-voltage, high-frequency designs, including custom polygon editing.
- Proficiency in Tcl scripting for automation and data analysis.
- Experience with noise, cross-talk, and OCV analysis.
- Practical experience in floorplanning, physical design, and timing closure methodologies.
- Familiarity with formal equivalence, DRC/LVS, IR, and electromigration checks.
Nice-to-have / preferred:
- 9+ years of experience with the above skills.
- Experience with tools such as Fusion Compiler, DCT, DCE, ICC2, RedHawk, ICV, Conformal, Calibre, PrimeTime, StarRCXT.
