E-core Senior CPU Physical Design Engineer
Intel CorporationJob Title
E-core Senior CPU Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Be part of the Intel Atom (E-Core) CPU physical design team responsible for implementing CPU core blocks from synthesis through post-layout verification and tapeout. The role focuses on developing synthesis and APR constraints, optimizing timing and power, and collaborating with micro-architecture, RTL, and circuit teams to meet project targets.
This position is eligible for a hybrid work model, splitting time between the Penang site and remote work.
Experience Level
Senior. Minimum 10 years of relevant experience required; 12+ years preferred.
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities include:
- Perform logic synthesis and place-and-route (APR) for core IP blocks.
- Lead floorplanning, routing studies, and block implementation.
- Conduct block/sub-system timing analysis and timing-closure activities.
- Apply low-power techniques and implement power reduction at the subsystem level.
- Drive physical verification closure, including DRC/LVS, IR, and electromigration checks.
- Develop scripts for data analysis and automation of design recipes.
- Collaborate with micro-architecture, RTL, and custom circuit teams to meet timing, power, and area targets.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and troubleshooting under aggressive schedules.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- At least 10 years experience in CPU physical design and timing verification.
- Expertise with synthesis and APR flows for multi-voltage, high-frequency designs, including custom polygon editing.
- Proficient in Tcl scripting for automation and analysis.
- Experience with noise, crosstalk, and OCV analysis.
- Proven floorplanning, physical implementation, and timing-closure experience.
- Familiarity with formal equivalence checking and signoff flows (DRC/LVS, IR, electromigration).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills; ability to work independently at various abstraction levels.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with Fusion Compiler, DCT, DCE, ICC2, RedHawk, ICV, Conformal, Calibre, PrimeTime, StarRCXT.
- Prior experience as a technical lead on CPU or SoC physical design projects.
Education Requirements
Must have a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
