E-core CPU Physical Design Engineer
Intel CorporationJob Title
E-core CPU Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Work on physical implementation of Intel Atom (E-core) CPU blocks from synthesis through post-layout verification and tapeout. Collaborate with micro-architecture, RTL and custom circuit teams to implement and optimize designs for aggressive timing and power targets. Position is based in Penang and eligible for a hybrid work model.
Experience Level
Senior level — requires a minimum of 10 years' relevant experience in CPU physical design and timing verification.
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities include:
- Perform logic synthesis and place-and-route for core IP blocks.
- Develop constraints and APR recipes to meet timing and power objectives.
- Floorplanning, routing studies and implementation.
- Block and subsystem timing analysis and closure.
- Apply low‑power techniques to reduce subsystem power.
- Drive physical verification closure, including DRC/LVS and IR/EM checks.
- Perform noise, crosstalk and OCV analysis.
- Write scripts for data analysis and tool automation (e.g., Tcl).
- Provide technical leadership, problem resolution and mentorship within the team.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Minimum 10 years of hands-on CPU physical design and timing verification experience.
- Proven experience with synthesis and APR flows for multi-voltage, high-frequency designs, including custom polygon editing.
- Proficient in Tcl scripting for automation and recipe creation.
- Experience with noise, crosstalk, OCV analysis and timing closure at block/subsystem level.
- Familiarity with formal equivalence checks and physical verification workflows (DRC/LVS, IR, EM).
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with Fusion Compiler, DCT, DCE, ICC2, RedHawk, ICV, Conformal, Calibre, PrimeTime, StarRCXT or similar toolchains.
- 12+ years of experience and prior leadership roles in physical design projects.
- Cadence toolchain experience.
Education Requirements
Requires a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
