E-core CPU Physical Design Engineer
Intel CorporationJob Title
E-core CPU Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Responsible for physical implementation of CPU core blocks from synthesis through post-layout verification and tapeout for future-generation Intel Atom (E-Core) microprocessors. Develop constraints and recipes for synthesis and APR tools to meet aggressive timing and power goals and converge designs with micro-architecture, RTL, and custom circuit teams.
Role is eligible for a hybrid work model based at Penang, Malaysia.
Experience Level
Mid-level - minimum 5 years' relevant industry experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include implementation and optimization of core physical design and verification tasks.
- Implement CPU core blocks from synthesis through place-and-route and post-layout verification up to tapeout.
- Develop synthesis and APR constraints and recipes to meet timing and power targets.
- Perform floorplanning, routing studies, and block/subsystem-level timing analysis and closure.
- Apply low-power techniques and perform noise, cross-talk, and OCV analysis.
- Run physical verification (DRC/LVS), IR/electromigration checks, and formal equivalence as required.
- Write scripts (e.g., Tcl) for data analysis and automation.
- Collaborate with micro-architecture, RTL, and custom circuit teams; communicate status and escalate issues.
- Deliver under aggressive schedules as part of a high-performing team.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in CPU physical design and timing verification.
- Experience with synthesis and APR flows for multi-voltage, high-frequency designs, including custom polygon editing.
- Proficiency with Tcl scripting for automation and data analysis.
- Experience with noise, cross-talk, and on-chip variation (OCV) analysis.
- Proven floorplanning, physical design, and timing closure experience at block/subsystem level.
- Familiar with physical verification closure including DRC/LVS, IR and electromigration checks.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills; ability to work independently.
- Preferred: 6+ years and experience with Fusion Compiler, DCT, DCE, ICC2, RedHawk, ICV, Conformal, Calibre, PrimeTime, StarRCXT.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's (BS) or Master's (MS) degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
