Job Title
DSP Systems Engineer, Staff
Role Summary
Senior DSP systems engineer focused on high-speed SerDes DSP architecture, algorithm development, modeling, diagnostics, and silicon validation. The role partners with RTL, firmware, verification, and post-silicon teams to deliver production SerDes solutions for data-center and networking products.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Preferred: 8+ years of relevant industry experience (or equivalent experience as described under Education Requirements).
Responsibilities
Work across architecture, modeling, verification, and silicon bring-up to design and validate DSP features for high-speed SerDes.
- Design and refine DSP SerDes features and architectures; participate in design and implementation reviews.
- Develop and maintain bit-accurate and cycle-accurate MATLAB models for verification and correlation.
- Research and analyze DSP algorithms for equalization, adaptation, CDR, noise mitigation, linearity, and related trade-offs.
- Create and analyze diagnostic features and metrics (SNR, BER, jitter, eye characterization) to identify limitations and drive improvements.
- Provide theory-of-operation documentation, pseudocode, and sequences to support firmware, DV, and post-silicon bring-up and debugging.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to isolate root causes and resolve complex hardware/software interactions.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items noted separately.
-
Must-have: Strong proficiency in MATLAB, Python, and C/C++.
-
Must-have: Solid RTL and digital design fundamentals; experience driving simulations and performing code reviews and systematic debug.
-
Must-have: Proven DSP architecture experience in mixed-signal SerDes (adaptation/calibration, clocking, equalization, FEC) with practical understanding of silicon limitations.
-
Must-have: Experience developing DSP diagnostic tools and analyzing BER, SNR, jitter, and eye metrics.
-
Must-have: Practical knowledge of post-silicon debug and effects of voltage/temperature on performance; familiarity with ADCs, analog CT circuitry, noise and transfer-function analysis.
-
Must-have: Strong cross-functional collaboration and clear technical writing skills for theory-of-operation and diagnostic documentation.
-
Nice-to-have: Embedded firmware experience and hands-on experience with DSP-based PCIe, 112G, 224G or higher-speed SerDes shipping in products.
Education Requirements
Minimum qualifications include one of: Bachelor's in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field plus 4+ years systems engineering (or related) experience; OR Master's in a related field plus 3+ years experience; OR PhD in a related field plus 2+ years experience. Preferred guidance: 8+ years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's with 10+ years of relevant experience. Equivalent practical experience may be considered where specified.
